Venetia was born and raised in Athens Greece. She moved to California to pursue her studies and shortly after graduation began working in film and art galleries. She briefly returned to Athens and established Icebox Gallery (1994 –1998), which had an intense and rigorous international program. When she moved back in New York in 1999 she formed a project space at the current location of the gallery, which ran until 2001. A year of curatorial exhibitions within a partnership took place from 2005 to 2006.
Venetia Kapernekas Gallery ltd is founded on a challenging program that is focused on young, innovative, contemporary artists who create artwork in a diverse range of media. Venetia is dedicated to her artists, presenting artwork that is critical, edgy and ambitious. The gallery program challenges the boundaries and concepts of traditional categories of art making. Venetia works with both national and international artists most of whom reside in New York City and Los Angeles. The program includes solo and two artist shows, and include film and performance.
